The fundamentality of group principles and perceived group entitativity
Article Abstract:
The idea of level of consensus was explored through an experiment in which participants judged the entitativity of specific groups on the basis of the distribution of opinions held by the members about three identity-related principles that participants previously rated for fundamentality. The results demonstrated that the more fundamental a principle was judged to be in comparison to the other principles, the more important the consensus about the principle was for producing entitativity relative to consensus about other principles.

Uncertainty, entitativity, and group identification
Article Abstract:
The prediction that people who felt unsure would identify most strongly with a group and such a group would have high entitativity was tested. The hypothesis supported the prediction and the ways in which such uncertainty and social identity played a part in extremism, orthodoxy and ideological belief systems are discussed.
