The impact of ingroup vs outgroup performance on personal values
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the influence of ingroup and outgroup performance on the scope to which an person value an attribute. Self-appraisals of personal standing on the attribute were analyzed as a possible mediator to the relationship. Results indicated that individuals valued an attribute less when their ingroup scored lower than the outgroup. Findings also showed that relative ingroup performance influenced the self-appraisals of participants on the attribute.

Priming meritocracy and the pshychological justification of inequality
Article Abstract:
Individuals are primed with meritocracy concepts and the effect of this on the extent to which members of a low status group engage in system-justification when faced with personal or group disadvantage is studied. It is found that members justify both personal and group disadvantage by decreasing perceptions of discrimination and increasing the extent to which they stereotyped themselves and their group in status-justifying ways.
