The impact of overseas labour migration on rural Thailand: regional, community and individual dimensions
Article Abstract:
Research reveals that labor migration is a strategy of life support for workers in rural Thailand. Results are based on a 1995-1996 case study of the impact of labor migrations from rural Thailand to East Asia through interviews of 63 villages in different parts of the northern and northeastern region of Thailand; topics include labor migration levels and direction, the type of migrant, different experiences as a result of destination, and the impact of migration on the community.
