The limitations in American capabilities for missile defence
Article Abstract:
US allies have depended on the US for protection against missile attacks, and believe that the US will continue to provide protection against attacks from Ballistic Missiles. The US is not able to provide such protection for a decade, nor can it adequately defend its own coops. There have been US claims that Theater Missile Defense systems will defend allies as well as US forces. The US President may make statements that protection will be provided, but Congress has to approve the allocation of funds. Co-operation is needed between the Defense Department, Congress and the White House for the program to be effective.

The relevance of Naval Theater Missile Defense
Article Abstract:
US Naval Theater Missile Defense (TMD) is potentially able to tackle some of the constraints which afflict Army systems being developed. The Army system is valuable, but its value would be enhanced by including the Naval system. The launch platform offers greater deployment speed due to its mobility, and there is no need for a host country to be used. The Naval TMD program should be given funding and priority so that it can be completed rapidly. The issue of Anti-Ballistic Missile treaties and their impact on effective defense also has to be addressed.

Changes in U.S. missile policy
Article Abstract:
The Republicans' congressional victory in the recent elections redirected the course of US military policy. One area which received increased support is the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization's Theater Missile Defense (TMD) project. However, conflicts between the administrative and legislative branches of the government are derailing new efforts to forge Allied TMD cooperation. To address this, the government should find a way to deploy TMD without violating the ABM Treaty.
