Article Abstract:
Authors and publishers of sociology books are advised to try and get their books reviewed in non-academic journals in order to boost their appeal to independent retailers. Ensuring that the publisher offers trade discount and return options can also raise appeal, along with targetting the jacket and catalog descriptions at the intended reader, and letting local independents know that they have a local connection with the author.
