The polls - poll trends: public support for Congress
Article Abstract:
The public's attitudes toward Congress, particularly the House of Representatives, are key predictors of the stability of democracy. Approximately 27% to 35% of people traditionally have supported Congress, but public support reached a high level of 56% in Jun 1987. Public support for Congress was lowest in 1979 and 1992. Only 17% of people supported Congress in Apr 1992, during the House Bank scandal and controversy over legislators' benefits, and only 19% supported the institution in Jun 1979, during the 'Koreagate' scandal.

The polls - a review: the Holocaust denial controversy
Article Abstract:
Surveys about the Holocaust were compared and evaluated. The wording of questions in a 1992 survey was changed to make the questions less biased. Some 22.1% of the respondents to the first survey indicated that they thought it was possible that the Holocaust never happened. Less than 2% of the respondents provided this answer after the question was reworded. Most of the doubt about the occurrence of the Holocaust appeared to be the result of ignorance about history rather than the result of feelings of anti-Semitism.

The polls: poll trends: religious beliefs and behaviors and the televangelist scandals of 1987-1988
Article Abstract:
The effects of televangelist scandals on the public were studied. Religious behavior and attitudes toward televangelists were affected by the scandals. Church membership declined from 69% to 65% between 1986 and 1988, and the percentage of people who prayed every day dropped from 58% to 53% between 1985 and 1989. Forty-one percent of the public rated televangelists as trustworthy in 1980, compared to 23% in 1987 and 16% in 1989.
