The polls - poll trends: American support for international involvement
Article Abstract:
A study of the results of public opinion polls reveals that 60% to 70% of Americans supported military and economic intervention in international situations between Sep 1991 and Jun 1992. The results of the polls are contrasted with the results of polls from previous years. The least changed attitude since 1973 demonstrates that Americans support protectionist trade policies, while the attitude toward US troops in Europe did not change between May 1989 and Oct 1991. Results and analysis of other attitudes are presented.

The polls - poll trends: public opinion on crime and punishment
Article Abstract:
An examination of the trends in public opinion surveys on crime and punishment indicates that the fear of crime is relatively stable over time. The actual risk of crime seems to be compatible with people's fears and perceptions about crime. The results of surveys are complex. Respondents may have one opinion about crime in their country, but another opinion about crime in their own neighborhood. People criticize the courts while expressing admiration for the police.
