The relationship among self-efficacy expectancies, severity of alcohol abusse, and psychological benefits from drinking
Article Abstract:
The Situational Confidence Questionnaire was used to investigate the relationship among self-efficacy expectancies and two important clinical aspects of clinical abuse, namely, the severity of abuse and strength of the perceived psychological benefits from drinking. Confidence in coping with high-risk factors for heavy drinking was found to have a systematic and significant relationship with severity of abuse. Confidence levels also decreased proportionally with an increase in abuse, while a covariance was found between perceived psychological benefits from drinking and self-efficacy.

The influence of gender, expectancy, and partner beverage selection on (meta)perceptions in a "blind" dating situation
Article Abstract:
A study of the interpersonal nature of reactions to alcohol in a mixed-sex setting focuses on the stimulus value of alcohol, and the results indicate that choice of beverage influences behavioral changes between genders. Perceptions and metaperceptions of a couple on a blind date are assessed before and after choosing a beverage. The results help in narrowing down the alcohol relevant environmental information. Positive alcohol expectancies relate to partner alcohol selection in predicting perceptions of change in friendliness and relaxation in mixed-sex drinking situations.

A prototype analysis of psychological situations through the lens of alcohol expectancies and gender
Article Abstract:
A conceptual analysis of psychological situations was conducted wherein respondents completed the Alcohol Expectancy Questionnaire and were asked to characterize 'dating,' 'blind dating' and 'drinking with friends' situations. Findings showed that women were more likely to characterize 'drinking with friends' with negative descriptors. Respondents with stronger alcohol expectancies displayed more overlap in their schemas for 'dating' and 'drinking with friends' than those with weaker expectancies.
