The role of cognitive factors in cue reactivity: Extinction on demand
Article Abstract:
Cue reactivity measures are common in addictions research due to their apparent objectivity. The role of cognitive factors in cue reactivity was investigated, using the analog response of salivation to the sight and smell of a lemon. Both experimental groups reduced salivation compared to the control group, and salivation was reduced more by the group rewarded for reduction. The results demonstrated that cue reactivity measures are subject to manipulation by research participants or clients.

The relationship of cognitive functioning to amount of recent and lifetime alcohol consumption in outpatient alcoholics
Article Abstract:
Cognitive functioning after four days of abstinence in 69 mildly to moderately alcohol-dependent outpatients, was studied. Circumscribed decrements in reaction time and verbal memory were linked with higher alcohol consumption in the 90 days before enrollment in the study. Longer drinking history was not however linked with poorer performance on neuropsychological measures.
