The topography of relapse in clinical samples
Article Abstract:
A topographic study was done to examine relapse in alcohol consumption, other drug use and tobacco use in two clinical samples about six months after admission into treatment. In the alcohol consumption samples, cluster analyses revealed three groups, namely abstinent, moderate and unremitted. Analyses of tobacco and other drug use showed a largely abstinent group, a drug use group that did not drink, a heavy drinking group that did not use other drugs and a group using both alcohol and other drugs. Results show that the presence or absence of tobacco use marks different outcome groups.

Complaints that predict drop-out from a detoxification and counselling unit
Article Abstract:
Interviews of 61 consecutive clients in a multidrug addiction detoxification and counselling unit relating to bodily pain, distress and coherence, were undertaken. Clients not completing the post detoxification program reported higher rates of fatigue and concentration difficulties, compared to those completing the program. Antonovsky's Sense of Coherence test was applied and less favourable values were observed in those not completing the program. The Hopkins Symptoms Checklist did not find any significant differences.
