Transforming public housing
Article Abstract:
The HOPE VI program aims to transform the physical appearance of public housing as well as to provide its tenants with an opportunity to become self-sufficient. Through this quest to help residents, public housing would once again serve as a temporary shelter for those who need transitional assistance. Because it is not heavily constrained by regulations and rules, the program is flexible and localized to the specific needs of the city. Therefore, the housing design and the support services are aligned with the local requirements and tastes. Given the many benefits it can offer, the program has attracted participants from different sectors, including residents, housing authorities, city governments and private companies. The program has been a success, as evidenced by the emergence of livable, dynamic, mixed-income and mixed-finance communities it has spawned.

Conferencing: a restorative approach to conflict resolution
Article Abstract:
Conferencing is a method of group conflict resolution derived primarily from traditional practices of the Maori in New Zealand, and has been found to be effective in resolving housing community disagreements and preventing recidivism. Participants include both victims and offenders, and discussion is facilitated by a disinterested third party who does not join in the decision-making process.
