Issues concerning two treatments, guided mourning (GM) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), for those who are grieving the deaths of others are examined. The topics include the nature traumatic grief, the manner in which GM and EMDR help patients confront the death event; the neural processing of grief; and the effect of the treatments on grief, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and self-esteem.

Treating anxiety in a managed care setting: a controlled comparison of medication alone versus medication plus cognitive-behavioral group therapy

Research on panic disorder treatment is presented, evaluating the effects of medication and medication with cognitive therapy within managed care practice. Results show that the addition of cognitive therapy greatly improves treatment outcomes over medication alone.
