Therapeutic communities for drug addicts: Prediction of long-term outcomes
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted among heroin addicts from three therapeutic communities (TCs) in Israel to examine their drug use fifteen months after their departure from the community, thus showing the contribution of socio-demographic characteristics, time in community, psychopathology, self-esteem, and locus of control to successful outcome. Results show that time in community, high self-esteem and an independent locus of control were associated with being clean at follow-up.

Reduction or cessation of injecting risk behaviours? Treatment outcomes at 1-year follow-up
Article Abstract:
A study of British intravenous drug abusers undergoing treatment shows that treatment has led to less risky behavior such as sharing needles. The study showed that some reduction was due to abstinence from drug use and that some was due to a reduction in needle sharing by users who had learned about risks in their treatment groups.
