Violations of transitivity: implications for a theory of contextual choice
Article Abstract:
Navarick and Fantino's articles state that the concurrent-chains procedure cannot be evaluated by either a unidimensional model, which can suggest accurately the behavioral responses, or a general equivalence rule for interval schedules. Violations of stochastic transitivity result in the negation of assumptions which are basic to conditioned choice models. An analysis of the fixed-interval and variable-interval schedules (VI-FI transformation)k with respect to the current-chains choice behavior has helped in understanding the 'transitivity' aspect and has suggested that a multidimensional, multiattribute, contextual model could be of more use in such studies.

The matching law and amount-dependent exponential discounting as accounts of self-control choice
Article Abstract:
Temporal discounting, which refers to responsiveness to reinforcement delays, has been observed to be dependent on the amount of reinforcement in humans. A parallel experiment was conducted to verify if the same results would be garnered from pigeons. Varied delays were incorporated into food reinforcement mechanisms for the pigeons. Results showed very little difference in sensitivity to delays. These data were used to predict self-control. When temporal discounting remained constant even at varying reinforcement, the predictions increased in accuracy.

Independence of reinforcement delay and magnitude in concurrent chains
Article Abstract:
A study with pigeons using concurrent chains tested the hypothesis that sensitivity to delay is lower with unequal magnitudes than when equal, but failed to give any solid evidence. Results of the study, however, support the independence of magnitude and delay as different dimensions of reinforcer value and suggest that the temporal context has similar effects on sensitivities to magnitude and delay.
