War loss and political reform: an ongoing pattern in Russian history
Article Abstract:
The fall of the Soviet Union could be attributed to the inability of the country to cope with the changes in the European community, its interstate war loss and the demand for political reform. The recurrent losses that Russia experienced in foreign wars negatively affected the country's move for political changes. Because of this, the country failed to conduct major national reform in its political system which, in turn, contributed to the Soviet Union's downfall.

However, analysts note that the vast wealth of the region, coupled with the strong monarchical traditions prevalent in Arab societies, make it difficult to predict the extent of the political reformations.
