Ninety-nine great moments in the history of running are recounted. They begin in 1896 with the first modern Olympics held in Athens, Greece. Other moments include the first Boston Marathon in 1897, Jesse Owen's performance in the 1936 Olympics, and Mary Decker's 1983 sweep at the World Championships.
