A five-point plan for steeps

Solutions to some of the common mistakes made by skiers of all levels while tackling steep terrains are presented. Speed control on very steep terrain requires that a continuous series of turns be made while maintaining balance over the middle of the outside skis. A five-step plan is included.

The proper techniques for preparing to ski down steep terrain are presented. Before a skier can gain confidence in tackling steeper terrain, he must have learn to control his speed and maintain his balance. Exercises for helping to develope good speed control while making turns are included.

The proper skiing technique for handling steep terrain is presented. The skier should always face the direction he wishes to go when skiing down a steep slope, which often means going against one's instinct. Facing in the proper direction helps maintain proper balance and control.
