The owner of a small farm in Montana describes his efforts to restore the hedgerows, marshes and trees that made up the farm environment in the past. He has created a deep pond and repaired a spring creek. A weedy lawn attracts widlife while acting as a firebreak.

A Saint Patrick's Day smallmouth bass fishing trip on the John Day River in Oregon is described. Fishing guide Steve Fleming of Fossil, OR, provided not only excellent fishing directions but also a corned beef meal prepared right in the boat on two Dutch ovens.

An old Irishman knew the techniques of hunting the game bird snipe. He was also an expert on hunting dogs. He taught a young hunter the fine points of hunting and fishing and left a lasting impression.
