Stockmarket investment in Australia is not the most conservative approach to making money, but is attractive to many because of media attention brought on by recent growth of the market. Growth in the year to 6/30/97 came to 26.5% vs other investments, government bonds among them, which went up by 16.6% over the same period. Returns on investments in shares can vary greatly. Declines in value can be as great as 50%. It is a good idea to consider ability to afford risk and factors such as age and financial situation before investing in shares, units of ownership in companies.

Janos Szentagothai (1912-1994)

Janos Szentagothai, one of the leading neuroscientists of the 20th century, died of cardiac failure on Sep. 8, 1994. The consummate scientist-teacher Renaissance man, Szentagothai interspersed his anatomy lectures with the values of human nature, providing inspiration to generations of medical students. He also pioneered research on the vestibulo-ocular and monosynaptic jaw-closing reflex arcs.
