Beetle mania hits Alaska; efforts to get rid of a forest-destroying bug threaten the state's premier trail
Article Abstract:
The 39-mile Resurrection Pass National Recreation Trail attracts 8,000 hikers annually, but the Alaskan trail may become riddled by tree stumps if logging interests get their way. A new law permits cutting trees infested with bugs or damaged by fire. The spruce bark beetle has infested the area.
