Blistering of fiberglass boats can be prevented by not sanding the gelcoat and by storing the boat out of water in winter. Repairing blisters by stripping the entire hull is expensive, but is more effective than stopgap measures.

Rebuilding the keel

The repair of a 42-foot sloop whose fiberglass keel was torn off by a hurricane is described. A new keel was constructed and attached to the keel stump.
