The American Kennel Club hosted the first National Bird Dog Championship in spring 1994 after years of not showing concern about changes to the breeds. The trials showed that field trials do not promote cooperation from the dogs, and cooperation in a hunting dog is an important trait.

The owner of a dog supply store created an aboveground kennel that keeps dogs out of their waste and minimizes the clean-up of their waste. A cloth can be spread over the top of the kennel on hot days to provide shade to the dogs. The kennel can be attached to a dog house.
