Changing the lead for speed
Article Abstract:
Sailing closer to the wind will increase a sailboat's speed. This can be done by moving the headsail. Its location off the centerline varies with each boat design. The lead is moved inboard by adjusting the crosshauls, and pulled outboard by adjusting Barberhauls. Other tips are given on changing the lead's position.

Shifting gears: windy weather comes in two 'flavors' - smooth and lumpy
Article Abstract:
The position and type of sail should depend on the kind of wind that is encountered while sailing. The setting of the sail should also depend on the water conditions. The boat should also be steered based on specific water conditions to achieve a specific boat speed.
