Does the iceberg profile discriminate between successful and less successful athletes? A meta-analysis
Article Abstract:
The Profile of Mood States (POMS) scores of different athletes were evaluated using the meta-analysis method. Results showed that The POMS scores of successful athletes are less than one-fifth of a standard deviation higher than POMS scores of unsuccessful athletes. This indicates that selection of team members or athletes should not be solely based on POMS scores. POMS scores may not be the most ideal instrument in predicting performance in sports.

Commentary to Hird, Landers, Thomas, and Horan
Article Abstract:
Jeffrey S. Hird, Daniel M. Landers, Jerry R. Thomas and John J. Horan's experiment on the cognitive-motor task continuum took steps to prevent order of presentation conflict by randomly assigning tasks but invalidated that effort in their task performance regimen. Other weaknesses included a failure to measure the subjects' mental/imagery ability, to control the practice time length or number of practice trials performed.

Response to Goginsky
Article Abstract:
Alesia M. Goginsky fails to substantiate her criticism of the experimental method used to test the interaction of mental and physical skills. The methodology devised was determined by research of available mental practice literature and demonstrates consistent results consistent.
