Many bowhunters are leaving their vantage points in trees and are going after elk, caribou and antelope on the ground. Bowhunters traditionally had found it difficult to stalk game, such as the whitetail deer, and had made use of trees to take advantage of the deer's vulnerability from above.

The traditional snowshoe, worn by hunters for more than 6,000 years, has high-tech competition in nylon, aluminum, plastic and magnesium sport shoes. But the traditional snowshoe is still preferred by sportsmen travelling off the pre-packed nature trails.
