Effect of activity and age on long bones using a new densitometric technique
Article Abstract:
An in vivo study uses a validated three-scan densitometric technique to investigate the relationship between age, activity level, and site specific bone mass and structural parameters related to long bone cross-sectional geometry in women. Activity study results suggest that higher loads associated with running lead to increased cross-sectional parameters to support axial loads, bending, and torsion in the tibia.

Reliability of air displacement plethysmography in a large, heterogeneous sample
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the reliability of air displacement plethysmography (ADP) using the Bod Pod in a large, heterogeneous sample. ADP using the Bod Pod appears to assess body density (BD) reliably, however, the observed coefficient of variation (CV) suggests that multiple trials are necessary to detect small treatment effects.

Race/ethnicity, social class, and leisure-time physical inactivity
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the prevalence of leisure-time physical inactivity in a nationally representative sample of non-Hispanic white, non-Hispanic African American and Hispanic men and women. It was found that non-Hispanic African Americans and Hispanics were more inactive during their leisure time than were non-Hispanic whites.
