Fan support of sport teams: the effect of a common group identity
Article Abstract:
Fan identification with a sport team associated group is a more important factor in determining intensity of team support than the team's win-loss record. A varimax rotation analysis of 120 college team fans surveyed indicates that team status improving behavior is promoted by a perception of increased status outside of the group. Moreover, the degree to which fans' identification with the institution affects their self-esteem was an important factor in team support.

Integrating socialization influences into the study of children's motivation in sport
Article Abstract:
The study of sport motivations in children would benefit from adding the study of socialization influence, including parental conduct. These issues have been excluded in previous efforts, but academic research on children's self-esteem and parental expectation have demonstrated a linkage. Parental involvement is too important an aspect in children's motivation to exclude. Directions for further research are also presented.
