A 14-year-old boy grows up quickly on a stormy night when his grandfather suddenly takes ill on a voyage from Tenants Harbor to Manchester, Massachusetts. A description of the voyage aboard Moonglow, a Pearson 39, and a teenager's fortitude in the face of potential danger, is presented.

A boy discusses his favorite midnight departure across the channel to Catalina Island where he learned sailing with his grandfather. The boy and his grandfather would visit Avalon for few days and then pass some days in the coves along the island's shore during their sail.
