Blood and urinary measures of hydration status during progressive acute dehydration
Article Abstract:
This article examines the accuracy of blood and urinary indicators used to assess dehydration in athletes. Findings indicate that plasma osmolarity measures are sensitive to minor changes in hydration while measures of urine specific gravity can accurately indicate dehydration but demonstrate a delay during episodes of rapid body fluid exchange.

Intestinal fluid absorption during exercise: role of sport drink osmolality and Na
Article Abstract:
This article investigates the effects of varying the sodium content and osmolality of sports drinks on rates of fluid absorption in the intestines. Findings indicate that gastric emptying and intestinal fluid absorption rates during exercise were not significantly different across solutions.

Gastric emptying and intestinal absorption of a low-carbohydrate sport drink during exercise
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to determine if lowering carbonate (CHO) concentration in a sport drink influences gastric emptying, intestinal absorption, or performance during cycle ergometry. The results indicate that lowering the CHO concentration of a sport drink from 6% CHO does not enhance gastric emptying, intestinal water absorption or time trial performance but reduces CHO and total solute absorption.
