Issues concerning the effects of the drought in the West of the United States in 2000 on the animals usually the hunting sport are discussed. Particular attention is given to the fact that the draught has killed many animals but that there may be a recovery in Montana.

Marinating elk steaks in a marinade of onions, garlic, gingerroot, and soy sauce can mitigate the 'gamey' taste of big game. The steaks are then sauteed in slices of gingerroot and sprinkled with cornstarch.
