Article Abstract:
Porcupines are herbivores that weigh an average of 10 to 20 pounds. Their need for sodium may cause them to chew on sweaty hiking boots. Porcupines warn potential attackers of their presence by making noise and emitting an odor. They are not able to actually shoot their quills at attackers.
