Leon Chandler

Leon Chandler of Cortland Line Company, known as 'Saint Leon' or 'fly fishing's ambassador to the world', contributed to spread the art of fly-fishing around the world. He retired in April 1992 after 51 years with Cortland, and was a legendary fixture on famous trout streams like the Missouri, the Bighorn, the West Branch of the Delaware, and the Beaverkill.

The new Fly Tying's Best annual award and the winner's designs and their superiority over others are discussed. The most important criteria were the practical applications of the flies even though beauty of the fly was considered.
