Kick the cellphone addiction
Article Abstract:
Cellphones have become a status symbol and people out at sea prefer to use the phone rather than use the marine-band radio (VHF) to contact the coast guard. It is recommended that a boat owner should use a VHF as it allows one to communicate with any search-and-rescue aircraft and vessels on the scene while a VHF transmission also allows the Coast Guard's new Rescue 21 system to locate a vessel even more quickly and efficiently when the Digital Selective Calling (DSC) is used in conjunction with a GPS unit.
