The advent of new fabrics allow skiers to wear less clothing and still stay warm. Some basic knowledge in how the body produces heat and loses it can help in choosing proper layers of clothing. Synthetic fibers are the best materials to use because they do not absorb water and hold in heat the best.

The Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii sometimes has enough snow for skiing. Ski Guides Hawaii provides transportation by four-wheel-drive vehicle and snowmobile to the top of the run, which has a vertical drop of 4,000 feet.
