Boaters who discover a leak should stop the boat and turn off the engine, if at all possible. They should then begin searching for the leak in the lowest area assessable and work upwards. Bilge-water alarms and tapered plugs are two pieces of recommended equipment.

Flying on new wings
Article Abstract:
The creation of a sail for the cruising boat Southern Cross was presented. The new sail was based on the original sail pattern of the cruising boat. However, it was created with a new roller-furling jib which provided good performance in various wind angles.

Digitized marine charts are now available in both floppy and hard disk formats at about the same price of paper charts. In the second method the computer draws a map using stored data. The most appropriate computer for mariners is a 12-volt-DC-run laptop.
