Mind-Body problems
Article Abstract:
Sport psychologists work with mind-body problems distinct from those of philosophers, but face obstacles in their studies because they have failed to consider the views of David Hume. Hume was the only major philosopher to believe that theories of the human mind should not be applied to animals unless evidence implies that the phenomena under examination is human-specific. Descartes believed that animals had no minds and thoughts, and that all animal behavior could be rationalized mechanically.

Does the dose of acute exercise mediate psychophysiological responses to mental stress?
Article Abstract:
Theeffects of acute aerobic exercise on the psychophysiologcal reactions to mentalstress were investigated by putting 80 women subjects under one of four exercise conditions. The subjects' emotional states were evaluated before and after exercise and before and after a stressor. Subjects put under the demanding exercise condition exhibited lower diastolic blood pressure and mean arterial pressure. However, no correlation was found between dose of exercise and blood pressure reactivity.

The effect of resistance exercise on manipulated preexercise mood states for male exercisers
Article Abstract:
Aerobic exercise was found to be an effective mood-regulating behavior, but this does not extend to resistance exercise. In a study, 40 males were randomly assigned to resistance exercise or placebo activity after having a positive, negative or neutral mood induced. Resistance exercise produced an immediate, but short-lived, increase in negative mood.
