The San Diego Padres have undertaken an international marketing effort, directed at Mexico with plans to expand to Japan. The Padres spread goodwill by playing regular season games in Monterrey, Mexico, and Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1996 and 1997, and have an active lend-lease player exchange program in Japan.

Steve Young, who spent years playing behind Joe Montana, finally has convincingly demonstrated his right to the quarterback position. Young had a tremendous 1994-95 season, beating the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC title game, and playing what was perhaps his best game ever in the Super Bowl.
