Nerve preserver: new drug may slow course of nerve disease
Article Abstract:
A French study shows that the drug riluzole can lengthen the life and slow the muscle deterioration of people suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Twelve months into the study, the survival of patients taking the drug was 74%, compared to 58% for those taking a placebo.

Article Abstract:
A study has indicated that people who know of the possible side effects of a drug are no more likely to encounter those effects than those who do not know. Some doctors had been assuming greater suggestibility on the part of their patients and had made it a point not to mention side effects.
