One-hit wonders
Article Abstract:
The history of alpine skiing at the Winter Olympics is replete with examples of underdogs overcoming favorites to win the gold medal. Paoletta Magoni at Sarajevo in 1984 and Kathy Kreiner at Innsbruck in 1976 are two of these surprise winners. An analysis of these and other upset winners is presented.

Austria's Petra Kronberger is a favorite to win the slalom, Super G, giant slalom, and downhill events at the 1992 Winter Olympics. The 20-year-old skier began training with the Austrian national team in 1985.
