Golf Magazine rated the '100 Greatest Golf Courses in the United States' in the Nov 1995 issue, and 19 of them are accessible to the public. Among those 19 courses, two of them are rated in the top six in the country: Pebble Beach Golf Links, in Monterey, CA, and Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.

Know your TPCs
Article Abstract:
Twenty-one US golf courses and five courses in Asia comprise the TPCs. Half of the TPCs are open to the public during the weeks when tournaments are not played there. Initiation fees can be as high as $50,000, and annual dues can be as high as $5,000 at some clubs. Eight TPCs are described.

Staying ahead of the game

Hilton Head Island, SC, has become one of the premiere golf-vacation destinations in the world. The island is home to 15 public-access courses and eight private courses. The various resorts on the island have begun upgrading and modernizing in order to stay competitive with other resorts.
