An experienced fisherman profiles several rare species of trout with dwindling populations and describes how he successfully landed these prize fishes. The species are Dolly Varden and bull trout, Lahontan cutthroat, coastal cutthroat, and Williamson River trout.

Several guidelines for trout fishing are presented. They suggest going early in the morning when most trout are most active, 'finding undisturbed water,' and remembering that trout 'flee and hide' when they perceived being hunted.
