High-tech cordage has a variety of uses on modern sailboats and they have replaced stainless-steel shackles, soft shackles or attachments which are used on raceboats and are making their way onto bigger boats. High-tech fibers are used in these cords and the number of braids in the coil depends on the required strength of the line.

What's all the noise about?
Article Abstract:
The efforts taken up by various organizations in the US to reduce the noise levels on the water are discussed. The Vermont-based Noise Pollution Clearinghouse is collecting data on the acoustical footprint of various boat types by using sound level meters to record noise levels generated by boats at a distance of 50 feet.
