Three Africans from South Africa ran in the Steamboat Classic in Peoria, Il. Xolile Yawa, Matthews Motswarateu and Meshack Mogotsi were in three of the five winning spots. Because of racist minority white government policies, South Africa had been banned from international sports competition for the last 30 years.
