Something old, something new
Article Abstract:
The women's 800- and 1500-meter races were won by Meredith Rainey and Regina Jacobs respectively. Their victories were predictable, given their pre-race status as favorites, but the battles for second and third place were very exciting. Suzy Hamilton barely hung on for third place in the 800-meters.

How do you figure it?
Article Abstract:
The mens 1500-meter race was notable because the man favored to win, Steve Holman, failed to qualify for a spot on the US Olympic team. The 800-meter race, however, was more predictable as 36-year-old Johnny Gray won the event and qualified for his 4th consecutive US Olympic team.
