Cheap tackle marketed to beginners has put spinning out of favor with some experienced anglers, but it is much more versatile than bait-casting or fly fishing. A guide to new mid-size spinning tackle is presented. Six-foot rod combinations and long rod-light line combinations are suggested.

Tangled lines are an all-too common problem associated with spin-fishing, one that can ruin an otherwise fine fishing day. The best way to prevent the problem is to ensure that the slack line is controlled properly so that excess slack is not created at the reel.
