Chichcester was knighted by the UK queen for circumnavigating the world in his sailboat 'Gypsy Moth' in 1967. He was in his mid-60s when he accomplished the feat. Other records by the adventurer, such as making the fastest known voyage around the world in a small vessel, are cited.

Rev Bob Shepton, a retired school chaplain, took a group of young British men on a 21-month sailing trip around the world. The men, aged 18 to 24, were mostly disadvantaged. The trip, which earned Shepton a Blue Water Medal, is described.
