Stolen moments
Article Abstract:
About 1,000 boats are stolen in the US monthly. This translates to $50 million annually insurance claims. Two devices that can protect watercrafts from being stolen are burglar detection devices and lockable battery switches. Other techniques to foil would be robbers are discussed.

Boaters should adopt a number of precautionary measures before starting an engine. They should check bilge blowers for possible leaks and incorporate an access hatch to engine compartments. They should also teach themselves the basics of using life-rafts.

Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is a problem that is very easy to prevent but is often overlooked by boaters. Checking for exhaust leaks and the installation of CO detectors should be a standard operating procedure for boat operators.
