Stress and strain
Article Abstract:
A fiber technology called Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG), which is made of a teensy glass strand needing no electricity to function, and can be easily laminated into or onto any sort of composite surface is developed by the UK firm Insensys. Fiber optics are used to simplify the rigging of FBG sensors, especially compared to conventional electric strain gauges, which usually require that three wires each routed back to the monitoring processor.
