The thymus in the age of retirement
Article Abstract:
The thymus involutes with age, and it has been assumed that it only functions early in life. However Douek and colleagues have reported that new T cells can be generated by the human thymus throughout and late into adult life. New peripheral T cells were found to be generated in patients infected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) following anti-viral therapy.
