Take charge of your batteries; boat batteries have improved immensely over the years, and now there are even better ways to charge them and monitor their performance

Modern boat batteries are sealed and are either liquid acid or gel. Gel batteries are more durable, but cost more. Monitoring the remaining charge in the battery is done by means of a device mounted on the boat's console.
